Oil Tank Removal
If your house is over 35 years old there is a very good chance there was an underground storage tank somewhere on the property. Underground Oil Tanks were very commonly used from the 1920’s up until the 1970’s. The steel tanks used have an average life span of 20 years, after which they begin to rust and deteriorate. These old tanks are usually now riddled with holes and are possibly leaking fuel and contaminating the surrounding area.
Before purchasing a house make sure that an inspection has been completed and you have documentation stating that there is no oil tank present, and that it was cleaned up if already removed.
Underground tanks which are not being used are now required, by law, to be removed.
Fleck Contracting takes care of all details required for the tank removal:
- Obtain necessary permits
- Pumping and disposal of contents
- removal and recycling of tank
- backfill
- provide owner and city with a completion letter
Contamination
If the oily contents of tank have leaked into the surrounding area, the site is now contaminated and must be referred to a qualified environmental engineer. The BC Ministry of Environment requires that contaminated sites be identified and remediated. The contaminated soil must be removed and sent to a remediation treatment facility. Once the contaminated soil has been removed the environmental engineer must determine, by analytical means, that the soil is free of contamination. Upon completion an engineering report will be provided to confirm the status of the site and a Notice of Independant Soil Remediation will be filed with the Province of BC Ministry of Environment.
“ GUARANTEED LOWEST CONTAMINATION CLEAN UP COSTS! Actual example- Fleck Contracting provided an estimate to a client. Company B provided an estimate for $150 cheaper for the same work. Client chose company B, but the site was found to be contaminated. The customer paid $25,000 to have the contaminated site remediated and cleaned up. When costs were compared (trucking, environmental engineer, soil remediation, etc) Fleck Contracting would have completed the job for $19,000. Customer paid almost $6,000 more than should have......”
Asbestos Abatement
What is Asbestos? Asbestos is a mineral that was added to a variety of building products to strengthen, or act as an insulator. It is a dangerous carcinogen and exposure may cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma and lung cancer. Asbestos poses the greatest danger when it becomes airborne, therefore any disturbance of potential asbestos containing materials is very serious. All potential materials must be sampled and analysed before any demolition or renovation occurs.
Common asbestos containing materials, but not limited to:
